Ann Mwangi in Eastleigh with Street Moms
18 February 2008

There are mothers, youths and a girl already in college. (We began sponsoring young people from the streets for skills training a few years ago.  From time to time we have from 2 to 8 in school. This is the program we want to expand as we develop the live-in program for the young moms).  One mother is Alice Wambui; she is doing childcare, baking and housekeeping.  She has been attending the mothers' programme for a year.  She is hiv positive.  The ministry also gives her baby girl powderws milk because she cannot breastfeed.  There are also Teresiah Mbuvi, Timar Omar,  Josphine and Martha.  They are doing hairdressing, and Grace Waithera who is also hiv positive is doing fashion and design,  knitting and embroidery.
There is Lucy Wanjiru from the girls' programme.  She is doing hairdressing.
There are also youths doing mechanics, panel-beating, welding and vehicle wiring. They are Ali Adudo (aka Chuna), Samuel Kahuho, Moses, Gabriel and Ali Mohammed. Every morning they come to the centre for chapel at eight and later go to college in different places.

Re: TEENAGE MOMS: We are having Catherine Ndunge and her child Lyonne Mutua, 6 months old. Catherine is a bit quiet but funny. She is very young, and she does not know how to take care of her baby.  Her baby is very healthy and likes to laugh.  Augustina is trying to teach her to feed her child porridge and pumpkin. Also the other teenage mother Eunice Akinyi is helping her.  Her child Kelvin is almost 2 years old.
Eunice is more mature and responsible. She is also good at disciplining her child. She assits Catherine very much. They are all looking forward to learn and become independent. They are also clean. They make sure they wash their children's clothes daily and also keep them clean.

ADDED NOTE FROM FRANCIS MBUVI

Kelvin has adopted very well to the new surroundings and seems happy. Eunice his mum is also doing very well, and she loves it at the Eastleigh Center. Ann told me they had pictures of the whole intake process and they gave Joel to bring and Joel forgot. I will try to get those to you soon. Catherine is also loving it and adjusting well. Augustina told me they are teaching her how to take good care of the child.
Today Ann was taking another lady for assessment; then we will know if she will be added or not.
